APVV-14-0393 - Complex utilization of extractive compounds from bark

Anotation of project:

The aim of this project is complex utilization of extractive compounds from bark produced during pretreatment of raw material for wood and paper industry. The result of solution project will be technologies for isolation of extractive compounds from bark and their application to high added value products. Bark after isolation of extractive compounds will be used for preparation of biofuels 2nd generation.

VEGA 2/0085/13 - Bioactive polysaccharides from non-utilized plants and plant wastes: structures and functional diversion.

Project summary: The subject of the project is a target-oriented study of non-cellulose polysaccharides with an important biological and/or functional profile isolated from plants and agro-industrial and forest wastes (spelt bran and chaff, larch, sawdust, leaves of implatiens, etc.). Particular attention of the project is concentrated on the development of new strategies to extract and separate components more rapidly by ultrasonic and microwave extraction or their combination. The statistic response surface methodology (RSM) will be used to identify and quantify the variables in order to maximize the polysaccharide yields. The obtained polysaccharides will be analyzed by composition. structural features, molecular and hydrocolloid properties (thickening, gelling and emulsifying) and characterized as dietary fiber. This is important in view of their potential application as additives in food cosmetics and pharmacy. The bioactivity of th epolysaccharides will be tested by antioxidant and immunological activity assays.

APVV-0248-10 - Poppy plants produced seed with better properties for food industry.
